Windimurra

The Windimurra Vanadium Project comprised the redevelopment and rebuilding of a previously commissioned mineral processing plant. The original plant had been decommissioned by the previous operator and a decision by the new owners was made to reopen and rebuild the plant. The project is situated near Mount Magnet in Western Australia. The site is in a remote area and a high level of coordination was required between Amec administration and the client’s HR department to ensure a smooth transition of labour from Perth to site.

Amec Services were awarded an initial contract to install gas fired turbine generators by Solar Turbines. The initial installation comprised 5 turbines and included installation of mechanical componentry, duct work and exhaust stacks.

Following the successful completion of this contract Amec were awarded a further contract to construct a diesel fired power station for Zenith Pacific to supplement the gas fired turbine station.

This additional task was also successfully completed and Amec Services were then requested to provide additional labour to site to complete the erection of the processing plant.

This additional work included:

  • Structural erection
  • Pipe work fabrication and installation
  • Mechanical installation

Amec Services scope of work was performed in a safe efficient manner and was at all times completed to the satisfaction of the client. The location and type of work undertaken illustrated the positive 'can do' attitude of the company. Amec Services completed this 8 million dollar contract in under 32,000 man hours with no recordable injuries, testament to Amec Services strong safety culture and the effort of all those involved.
